Margaret Jefferson was born in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in the Austin Community on the West side of the city. Despite facing financial challenges at times, she had the support of both her parents, as well as the love and encouragement of her family and friends. From a young age, she was instilled with the importance of faith and knowing God. On November 9th, 2007, she gave birth to her first and only child “Jaivon”. Her life took a deeply unfortunate turn when her son later lost his life due to Intimate Partner Violence (IPV)
She pursued her education diligently, earning a bachelor’s degree in social work (BSW) in Chicago, IL and later a master’s degree in social work (MSW), graduating with honors. Her dedication and commitment to addressing issues of violence against women earned her the Violence Against Women Act Award from the former Mayor and State’s Attorney. Margaret has since become a powerful advocate, using her story to raise awareness and speak out against IPV and DV. She has shared her experience in hope to inspire others to tell their stories of truth
